3rd Imperial Fist army - re-armed

The run up to Christmas has been ... err EPIC, in so many ways. I've been buying and selling, painting and stripping, basing and re-basing. Eventually I find myself with four large armies. Two are old ones (my Space Marines and Orks) that have been re-vamped and modernised, whereas two are completely new.

My Space Marine army required the most amount of work on my part. Initially, I was going to sell the army in favour of painting up a smaller, but nicer, Ultramarine army. In the end I looked upon my Imperial Fists, realising that it wasn't the models I didn't like, but the bases. Indeed, I actually thought it would be hard to recreate an army which had models painted to my Imperial Fists' standard. I therefore sat down and worked on:

  • Re-basing the infantry. This required adding more sand, painting it white and covering the whole base in snow flock.
  • I based all the tanks in the same way as the infantry.
  • I added a further two Thunderhawks (giving my army five if it so requires!).
  • I added six more Predator Annihilators (giving me two formations).
  • I added another Hunter (taking my total up to five).
  • I added another two detachments of Scouts (giving me three detachments).
  • I added another detachment of Terminators (giving me three detachments).
  • I added another detachment of Devastators (giving me three detachments).
  • I painted three new objectives.

So as you can see, quite a lot of stuff has been achieved. The only issue is that the new 'armour' (not the infantry) looks a lot brighter than the old. This puzzled my tiny brain for quite some time I can tell you; it was only when I cast my mind back, to when I painted my original Space Marines, that I realised I was using Games Workshop's 'Purity Seal' to varnish the models. I sprayed my original three Thunderhawks with it and, afterwards, the final yellow coat was dulled. Naturally I wasn't impressed; since then I have switched my varnish to 'Winsor and Newton all purpose Matt Varnish' which, though expensive, is brilliant. So the up-shot is that some of the models, even though painted with the same paints, look a little different. But never mind; below you can see the whole force in it's 'yellowness':

I can honestly say that, after this latest Imperial Fist upgrade (of which there have been three), I can think of no other war engine, vehicle or stand of infantry I wish to add to my army. Therefore I do believe that this army, is now, completed.

Toodle Pip!
