EPIC Orks - Building my Ork army

1st April was the date for me to start work on my new EPIC Ork army. The aim is to have it completed by the end of August 2009. Luckily the first two weekends of April (which included a bank holiday Friday and a bank holiday Monday) I didn't have anything planned so I set to:

Saturday 4th April

The day was spent gluing all the infantry together ... you won't believe how long it takes to glue over 500 6mm infantry figures to bases.

Sunday 5th April

Again the day was mainly gluing figures to basis; however before the gargant and the Big Gunz could be glued to their base, they first had to be milliputted. Milliputting and gluing the rest of the army finished my first weekend building my Ork horde. Looking back I did get a lot done, but I have seriously underestimated how long it takes to build an Ork Horde.

Bank Holiday Friday 10th April

After gluing the whole army together the next phase is to get rid of all the mold lines around all the figures (roughly 500 individual figures). Again underestimating was apparent here as well and it took all day just to do 90% of the infantry.

Saturday 11th April

Today was spent getting rid of the mold lines of all the rest of the army.

Sunday 12th April

Finally I had filed my last Ork ... next I PVA'ed every single base in the Ork army and added sand. This really did make the army come alive as basing, especially on 6mm figures, really makes an army.

Bank Holiday Monday 13th April

All of today was spent in the garden undercoating the whole army black. As I only have a limited area to spray figures, this took all day.

So six days into the project and the whole army is now ready to paint; I have underestimated how long it takes to prepare an army ... however I am happy with my progress.

  1. Nice, guess the bombers are going to be 'counts as' landa's?

  2. Yep that's correct.

The forge world bomber are fantastic models ... saw them used as Landa's in Belgium and copied it.
