I have two confessions to make before I start this particular blog.
Firstly the game system - Armati; it has to be one of my most favourite game systems. For ancient wargaming I believe nothing else beats it. Having said that I only get to play around 6 games a year. It's old wargamers curse; too many game systems and not enough time. I really do want to play alot more of this when I can.
Confession two; because I don't play ancients alot I find it hard to justify the time to paint an army for it. I also struggle painting anything historical as, unlike fantasy wargaming, you have to paint everything correctly to a match historically (orelse someone will notice). Therefore I did not paint the army below; a couple of years ago in November, I was on the old Ebay and found it lurking on there for a very reasonable price ... I snapped it up as quickly as I could and have never looked back.
From the slide show above (just click on the thumb nail) you can see that this army is very large. It also covers alot of time periods, from Alexander and his Macedonians right the way to later Seleucid. It's a brilliantly painted army that is a jewel in my wargaming collection (one that I will probably never part with).
The army has:
4x General stands (12 cavalry)
22x Phalanx stands (88 infantry)
9x Hoplite stands (36 infantry)
6x Argyraspid stands (24 infantry)
3x Scythed chariot stands
3x Seleucid elephant stands
2x Macedonian elephant stands
6x Cataphract stands (18 cavalry)
4x Half-armoured cavalry stands (12 cavalry)
5x Greek cavalry stands (15 cavalry)
4x Greek light cavalry stands (8 cavalry)
3x Scythian cavalry stands (6 cavalry)
2x Persian cavalry stands (4 cavalry)
3x Companion stands (9 cavalry)
12x regular auxilia stands (48 infantry)
8x irregular auxilia stands (24 infantry)
17xPsiloi stands (34 infantry)
4x irregular Indian psiloi stands (12 infantry)
That's quite a lot of stuff!
