Warhammer Fantasy - High Elf army

My High Elf army has gone through more changes in design than any other army I've ever owned; it's also the army which has taken me the longest time to painted and complete (over six years!).

When I started the army in January 2004 it was just going to be another 2,000 point tournament army with a few additional units. That was easily completed and I grew to really enjoy playing the High elves (the main reason without a doubt was because they did something in every phase of the game, unlike Daemons, Dwarfs, undead etc). I was playing fifteen Warhammer Fantasy tournaments a year so, instead of building a new army, I decided to add more units to the army to give me more choice.

Then in 2005 I decided to make the army as big as I possibly could be painting hundreds of figures (the plan was to have 150 spear elves, 75 archers, 75 Sea Guard etc) to give me maximum variety.

However throughout 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 something changed. My love for Warhammer Fantasy faded from 15 Warhammer events a year to 2, maybe even 1. Finally with the release of the new Daemon and Dark elf army books my army had been demoted to the cupboard, only to appear once a year, or for special occasions.

During this period of woe I also went about downsizing by selling parts of the army (from the 'grand army' of 150 spear elves, 75 archers, 75 Sea Guard I've gone down to 40 spear elves, 20 arches and 40 Sea Guard).

In 2010 Warhammer 8th edition arrived and immediately I blew the dust of my spear elves, the cobwebs off my archers and readied for battle once more. This new enthusiasm for the game was all I needed to get the final two units I wanted for my High elf army painted (2 units of 6 Dragon Princes; to give the army a cavalry element it has missed since 2004).
